Summary

In Chapter 6, Mago stays home from school because she has her period for the first time. When Papi comes home, he gives her a lashing with his belt. Reyna shouts at him to stop and explains that it is because she has become a señorita. In Chapter 7, Reyna is sent home from school because she has lice and her Papi surprises her by helping comb her hair rather than beating her. In Chapter 8, Reyna notices Mago, now in high school, is changing and starts to resent their father’s ban on makeup and dating. They continue to write to their mother, but she never writes back.
