Summary
At long last, Daphne receives a wire transfer of thirteen thousand dollars from Pilar for her portion of the gallery’s insurance, but the money is mysteriously withdrawn from her bank account as soon as it arrives. Initially, Daphne suspects Tate, but is flummoxed when she receives word from her bank that the money has been wired somewhere in Guatemala. This prompts her to contact Guatemalan hospitals on a hunch. Eventually, she gets through to a nurse, who confirms that an American doctor named Brantley Hall is now working there. Devastated, Daphne realizes that her husband is not dead and that he is now actively stealing from them to support himself.
Meanwhile, cracks increasingly begin to show in Tate’s wildfire operation when he learns that Gavin was confronted by a stranger in the library who demanded to know who his supplier was...
