Dressed as a cowboy, Carl Hollywood walks the streets of Shanghai for the first time in years. He barely recognizes the city, which is now on the verge of chaos. He recounts his youth as a coder on his grandfather's ranch in the Western United States, then his flight to the big city and his ensuing career as an actor and a company director. He enters a teahouse that he used to visit on a regular basis while he was working at the Theatre Parnasse, which is located nearby. He sits down and orders tea, then starts writing a paper.
