The South
Blow’s primary message is that, in order to secure true progress towards racial justice, as many Black Americans as possible should migrate to the Southern United States. Blow lists the following states as destinations for this migration: Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware. Blow also recommends that migrants settle in/near cities. These migrations will create regions of safety for Black Americans, as well as give Black Americans more equitable representation at the state and national levels of government.
Destination Cities
At several points in the book, Blow refers to ‘destination cities,’ which are Northern cities to which many Black Americans migrated in the decades following the Civil War. Black Americans migrated there in search of economic opportunity, and in hope of escaping the racial persecution that they suffered in the South.
