Chapters 5-8 Summary

In chapter five Andrea finds the week routine, though a bit stressful. During a lunch with Lily, Andrea details some of the events that have taken place. Lily is studying for her PhD in Russian Literature at Columbia while working whenever she is not studying and tells Andrea that her job sounds much more exciting. Despite Lily's declaration, Andrea knows that Lily loves the life she leads; she loves learning and being a student.

The week rushes by and Emily presents Andrea with her badge, complete with a photo taken by one of the many security cameras in the building. Andrea is a bit put off when she discovers that the swipe cards track the employees everywhere they go, as well as what they buy for lunch in the company cafeteria.
