Summary
In This is the Place, after the vandalism of the Sojourner Truth House, the Webster Dissent grows massively and begins to actively cultivate its media presence with its own websites and with public news outlets. Naomi feels personally attacked by the commentators who describe Webster as if “the entire generation of post-Sarafian students had never set foot on campus” (201). Naomi is frustrated that she cannot tell these media outlets the reason why Gall was denied tenure, which she sees as the only way to correct the rampant misinformation. In the midst of this, Naomi and Francine talk about a scandal recently come to light at an unnamed university: a five-million-dollar donation had been made to the university by the parent of a high school senior, who was then admitted.
