Point of View

The Destroyers open with a prologue told from the perspective of Elise, a recently divorced woman from New York City who has come to Patmos in the hopes of ridding her mind of her problems in the Big Apple and paying little attention to the news. “Wars could be breaking out in Canada for all she knew or cared,” but the narrative begins on Elise’s last day on Patmos and she must find her friend, Raina, so the two can board their ferry and catch their flight (2).
