Summary

Mr. K’s sickness, Stefan’s death, and Charlie’s disappearance have left Rasym to take control of company issues and to notify everyone of Stefan’s death, which they have convinced the doctor to sum up as an accidental drowning. Ian and Rasym talk in private and Rasym explains that Mr. K is not doing well and will likely not survive another surgery. Ian asks, “Rasym, you don’t think Charlie could be involved?” (398). After Ian’s recent conversation with Stefan and his apparent conviction to rid his father’s company of any evils, Ian has a hard time believing that Stefan would have taken his own life due to uncovering nefarious facts about the business, according to the suicide note. Rasym answers, “I really hope not” (399). Ian returns to his cabin to find the $9000 stashed in the dresser stolen.
