Chapter 12: Bread and Roses Summary

Raisa uses the palace laundry to find a disguise, though finding something that fits is a challenge. She practices shuffling, eyes downcast, dipping curtsies regularly. Magret takes to her bed with a headache, and Raisa sees it as a sign. She fills a bag with small art pieces and jewelry from suitors that she hopes are unrecognizable and those from foreign sources. Amon is waiting for her at the city end of the bridge, dressed in cloak and breeches and she curtsies in front of him grinning. Calling herself Rebecca Morley, she takes his arm. Raisa notices that they are being followed and realizes they are Amon's troop despite his look of innocence. He calls them in and Halley Talbot introduces herself and the others as the Gray Wolves.
