A complex personality, Beth is at once both attractive and sloppy. Although she is a talented photographer, her self-esteem is very low and her defense mechanism is to come off as hard-core and careless. A noted photographer, she is not an attentive mother, even though she loves and adores her children. She assumes that her kids know that she loves and wants them, and does not go too far out of her way to nurture them. She is not a very organized person and, especially in the beginning of the story, is very self-focused on her career and her self.
