Summary
Chapter 21 is narrated in the third person and begins with Chika preparing for Vivek’s burial by repainting Ahunna’s house white. Vivek’s family gathered in the village, and Mary and Kavita seemed to agree to a temporary truce. Kavita stood by the casket to view Vivek’s body with Chika, who asked where Vivek’s necklace was, and remarked that he should be buried with it. Kavita agreed. The Nigerwives arrived at the house in the morning with their children. Upon viewing Vivek’s body, Juju said “I can’t believe this” (204) and asked Osita if they should say something. Osita told her there was no point. After the casket was lowered into the ground, Kavita went upstairs and Chika stayed to accept sympathies from the visitors.
