Summary
In Chapter 7, As Lily questioned Charles about his faith, he was learning to give clear, concise answers to Lily’s questions. He wished he could share his doubts about the Bible being the word of God and his adequacy as a minister with Lily. He knew he could not show any doubt around her.
Meanwhile, Lily had felt more robbed of her parents than ever as she wondered what they would think of Charles. She came to associate Charles with lectures and studying in the library. It was everything she wanted in life. She believed their burdens were equal because while Lily did not believe in God, Charles could never understand how it felt to lose one’s parents.
