Fanaticism
Vera Smith is a wife and mother who depends heavily on her religious beliefs. When Johnny goes into a coma Vera begins to go off the deep end with an obsession with Scripture and communicating with other fanatics who believe in various religions, some that are universally accepted and some that are outrageous. Vera's husband Herb tries to talk sense into his wife, and the fanaticism causes friction in the marriage. Johnny's condition does not change and Vera is convinced that God has a divine plan for Johnny and believes that her son will come out of the coma to fulfill a divine prophecy. Herb has tried to talk sense to his wife and in the end he must settle for trying to keep her from frivolously giving away all the family's money to religious cults, who believe that spaceships will come to take them all to heaven...
