John Smith
John Smith is the main character in Stephen King's "The Dead Zone." The story starts out with Johnny at age six, a carefree, happy boy whose only concern is to learn how to ice skate backwards like one of the older boys. An only child, Johnny has a typical childhood with no major crises or traumas. The story picks up again after Johnny graduates from college and begins a relationship with a fellow teacher, Sarah Bracknell.
By all accounts, Johnny is bright and good at his job although his methods may be slightly unorthodox. Johnny is the one that everybody likes, with a quick wit and an easy smile. These qualities are what Sarah falls in love with rather quickly.
There is a sense of strength about Johnny's character that will not let him give up, even after all the pain and suffering caused by the accident...
