Chapter One and Chapter Two Summary
"Dead and the Gone" is the story of one family, the Morales', as they struggle to overcome obstacles in the new world following a catastrophic asteroid collision with the moon. Amidst food shortages, plague, blackouts, earthquakes, volcanoes, and tsunamis, young Alex Morales must persevere to save his younger sisters, and himself. In Chapter One, seventeen-year-old Alex Morales finishes his shift at the local pizza parlor and hurries home, thinking of his chances of getting into an Ivy League school, and of his school nemesis, Chris Flynn, who comes from a well to do family.
