Summary
In Chapter 34, Liselle and Selena met up a year after "Liselle had graduated from Bryn Mawr" (158). Before meeting with Liselle, Selena told herself to "Be positive," "Be sunny," and "Be sexy" (158). Sitting with Liselle, she had trouble quieting her feelings. They talked casually about their jobs and lives. Liselle was working for the startup. Selena was working for the Women's Alliance. Her job was to "basically give out money to women who [could not] afford abortions" (160). When Liselle told Selena she wanted to know what it had "really been like" for her, Selena knew "they could never stay light" (161).
In Chapter 35, during her first psychiatric commitment, Selena "tried not to think about Liselle" (162). The memories brought more hurt than comfort. "The second time she was in the hospital, she clung to memories of Liselle" (162). It helped her to remember who she had been...
