Pinner House
The majority of the story takes place in the Pinner house where Constantia and Josephine have lived with their father for most of their lives. The sisters never leave the house and instead travel from room to room living out the routine that they followed when their father was still alive. The Pinner house keeps the sisters confined and isolated from the rest of the world; it is only when the organ grinder outside begins playing music that they start to imagine alternative lives that might take them beyond the house's walls.
Ceylon
Ceylon is a British colony. Now Sri Lanka, Ceylon was colonized by the British government in 1796. The story implies that the colonel was involved in maintaining the colonization of native people, and that Benny has taken over his position in some capacity.
