Chapter 28

In Chapter 28, Ruby and Chubs are in the cabin with Lee, who is sleeping restlessly after having his wounds treated. Suddenly a girl named Lizzie rushes into the cabin with blood on her hands. She says Clancy is having a seizure of some sort and that she needs Ruby. Ruby hesitates but goes with Lizzie and finds that Clancy is not injured or ill. He has planted the image in Lizzie’s brain and she fully believes it to be true. Clancy says he is keeping Ruby with him “for a little while.” Ruby is gratified when she manages to break into Clancy’s mind and force him to allow Lizzie to leave. But she can’t hold the pose long and Clancy forces her back out. They are locked in their own battle when they hear the roar of helicopters and...
