Chapter 13

In Chapter 13, Chubs isn’t thrilled to find that Ruby didn’t leave during the night but Ruby is unrepentant. Lee calls on Ruby to help navigate, saying Chubs has such poor vision that he can’t help read road signs. Suzume goes to sleep and Lee explains that her parents sent her to the prison after she short-circuited her father’s car. He says her parents were afraid of Suzume. However, Lee’s parents and Chubs’ parents had tried to keep the boys hidden, which is why they’d spend less time in prison. They stop at a restaurant and Lee goes inside for food. When he returns, he announces that Lady Jane is in another part of the parking lot and they quickly hide the van in a nearby alley.
