Summary
Prologue
The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken opens with the Prologue in which Ruby Daly is pulling weeds alongside other children in the garden when the “White Noise went off.” Ruby says she always has a serious reaction to the White Noise, far worse than the other children. While the others are quickly recovering, Ruby remains nauseous and unsteady for hours. But this time, Ruby’s reaction is even more severe than usual. She doesn’t know what prompts the use of the White Noise but she tenses her body when she hears the blast of sound warning that it’s coming but there’s no way to fully prepare and this time she finds herself writhing on the ground in pain.
