Facing Reality
Any era in history has things that are accepted as a normal part of reality of that time, and Ruby's early life is no different. The people of this time and place are facing specific challenges that would not exist without the IAAN children, and those children face a far different world than the generation before them. Brutality, starvation, and separating families from children are just a few of the realities Ruby and her peers face. Some of these realities are the product of the adults who fear them and others are the result of warring factions within the government, the people, and even the children themselves.
