Summary

Chapter 25 is written from Joe’s third-person perspective. After spending time with his family, Joe interviews Olivia Best who is a newly single midwife. Olivia has not heard about Lorna’s death. She met her on the Thursday before Lorna’s death. According to Olivia, Lorna was having problems with Thomas’s father and had to make a decision involving him. However, Lorna never revealed the man’s identity. Olivia assumed that he was trying to neglect his responsibilities towards Thomas. Lorna was calmer when she arrived than when she called. She said that the situation had calmed down, but Olivia thought that Thomas’s father was stringing Lorna along. Olivia’s comments angered Lorna.
