Sections 14 - 15 Summary
A little before dawn Chee is awakened by the presence of someone nearby. Chee waits for an hour before he moves. He surmises that people interested in the area had seen his lights and sent someone to investigate. Then he goes down to the pickup, puts his pistol in his belt, and examines the tracks left by the person who had been hunting him last night. Chee finds the vehicle at sundown. It has been driven into a narrow gully in a tangle of mountain mahogany and salt brush. Chee checks the area thoroughly for tracks left behind by whomever had driven the carryall but does not find any. Then he focuses his attention on the vehicle. It is locked and the windows are all fogged up. There is a body on the back seat, which Chee recognizes as being Richard...
