Point of View

The novel is written in third-person from the limited perspective of Starflight, a NightWing dragonet who lives in Pyrrhia. The limited perspective means the reader only observes what happens within Starflight's sight. The reader does not know what is happening in the Rainforest until Starflight returns there, for example. The limited perspective also means Starflight cannot explain situations he does not understand. One example is that Starflight sees a suit of armor in Mastermind's lab and he imagines Mastermind is trying to create a method of protecting dragons from lava. The suit has two walls and Starflight believes the plan is to put some substance in that gap, such as water. What he discovers when he confronts Battlewinner at the end of the novel is that the armor is meant to hold lava inside so that Battlewinner can leave her pot of lava on the...
