Summary
In Chapter 5, a NightWing named Mastermind is in his lab, wearing a metal helmet. Morrowseer introduces Starflight as Mastermind's son. Mastermind notes similarities in appearance. He feels superior because not many NightWings are fathering children. He calls Starflight “son,” asks about his interests, and begins showing him around the lab. Starflight makes intelligent observations about ongoing experiments and imagines working with Mastermind long term. Mastermind shows Starflight and Fatespeaker a room where he has been studying RainWing venom. The room has chains bolted to the floor and they have tested the venom on many objects, including animals. Mastermind says he might let Starflight see a couple of NightWings who have been injured by the venom.
