Summary

Part Three is titled The Insurrection. In Chapter 36, Ballard drops Bosch at home and handles the paperwork to support Abbott's arrest. Bettany seems shocked when Ballard hands it over with the news that Hoyle is ready to talk and Abbott has already been booked. Kirkwood seems pleased. Ballard meets Pinto and decides within minutes to adopt. She takes him to the beach where he seems thrilled to run off the leash, though carefully keeping an eye on Ballard. Robinson-Reynolds calls and suspends Ballard for subordination. After making the formal announcement, he says he is disappointed that she kept working while under investigation and hopes she is fired. He has already hung up when she says, “They tried to kill me” (306). She knows she has been on this path since the moment she hid Bonner's phone. She phones Bosch who is also not surprised...
