Summary

Part Two is titled Use of Force. In Chapter 29, Ballard wakes with someone pinning her to the bed. Her first thought is that the Midnight Men have found her. She realizes that is not what is happening because he is pushing a gun into her mouth. She is able to buck him forward so that he hits his head on the headboard. She knocks him to the floor, removing her sleeping mask to see Christopher Bonner with her gun. She strikes him in the throat and he falls. She realizes she has crushed his throat. He cannot breathe at all. She calls 911. Learning the ambulance is four minutes away, she gives them her security code for the gate and her apartment number, then calls Single who talks her through an emergency tracheotomy.
