Summary

In Chapter 25, Ballard looks through records in the hope of identifying Bonner. She knows she cannot ask around without risking alerting Bonner that she is looking for him. She does not find anyone likely to be the correct Bonner among active officers. The book with a list of retired officers is in Robinson-Reynolds's office. She picks the lock on his door and finds a listing for Detective Christopher Bonner who retired two years before Ballard started. She asks the current watch commander, Lieutenant Rivera, about Bonner. He does not offer much information. Ballard tries to lessen his interest by saying his name came up when she was talking to someone about a case. She tells Bosch that Bonner still lives in the area. She finds Bonner's name on thousands of digital reports. She searches for hours before she finds a report tying Bonner...
