Summary
In Chapter 7, Ballard gathers and creates the documents for the “murder book.” This is a three-ring binder that outlines the process of the investigation and details of the case. Moore chastises Ballard for working on the case even though she will have to hand it off to West Bureau. She says, “You're giving the rest of us a bad name” (40). Ballard talks to a crime scene technician who is able to identify the guns fired based on the shell casings recovered at the scene of Raffa's murder. They came from three guns with one exception – a casing recovered under a car a few feet from where Raffa fell. Ballard takes that casing to a firearms technician. Though it is the end of his shift, Ballard captures his attention. She calls Robinson-Reynolds while the technician gets to work. Robinson-Reynolds agrees to let her keep...
