Summary
"Wampum" begins with an unnamed girl, who is the first person narrator, wheeling a cart down the shoulder of the road. A man named Trey asks her if she wants a ride, while she has some reservations, she gladly accepts the ride. Once he takes her home, he tells her that if she ever needs anything she can call him. The next day, with nothing to do in the summertime, she walks to the store to buy some candy. Again, Trey offers her a ride and she accepts. He offers to take her to the quarry for a swim, another offer which she accepts. At the quarry, the unnamed girl admires Trey’s body and imagines the things he can do with it.
The unnamed girl then lapses into memories about finding objects that are special to her. She keeps these small random items...
