Summary
This narrative begins with the first person narrator, Ada, buying plywood as she has been advised. Unfortunately, it is too large to fit into her car and she cannot take it back home. Ada begins to think back, never leaving her first person narration, to when she first moved to Florida from Rhode Island. She bought a one-story square house in a neighborhood that was not much more than a few mobile homes and families. She believes that Florida is actually nothing like the version of Florida the people of Rhode Island have in their minds.
As she arrives back home her neighbor Chuck, who lives in his sister Patricia’s shed, is listening to the radio. Ada thinks about when they first met; Chuck is a green anarchist who does not like to use fossil fuels or go shopping...
