Summary

"The Yellow" begins with 42-year-old Roy, who is living with his parents. He is having to eat their food and use their car to drive to different job interviews. His grandmother insults him for it and so early one morning, while his parents are gone, he paints his room bright yellow. His parents are not thrilled, but Roy feels as if he has transformed into something more wonderful because of it.

The first person narration then quickly moves to a third person omniscient narrator to talk about a woman named Susanne, who has also changed but more subtly than Roy.

The scene switches back to Roy as the first person narrator. He storms out of his parents’ house and decides to drive around while listening to the radio. As he is driving, a dog runs out in front of him and he hits...
