Summary
"Beast" begins with an unnamed wife who is the first person narrator. She is reading the news in bed and a story about a brother who works two jobs to put his sister through college catches her eye and she flips through it. While she is doing so she finds a tick on her stomach and asks her husband to pick it off of her. He goes to the bathroom to get tweezers to pick it off of and the unnamed wife internally describes the cottage they live in and how it scares her in the dark. The husband then returns and is able to pull the tick off of her. As he turns to put the tweezers away, the wife thinks about their high school relationship and reflects on how lucky she is to have married the right man so young. When they...
