Summary
In Chapter 36, government officials will soon arrive to inspect the hospital and make sure it still meets specific standards. Dr. Limb worries that they will want to replace him with a different person as head of the hospital. He finds that he does not have a patient file for Lady Anne, as it was never transferred from her previous place of care, and so he decides to simply tell the officials that the file has been somehow lost. In Chapter 37, a medical examination has shown that Lady Anne actually has no health problems whatsoever. Dr. Limb plans to discharge her from the hospital as soon as possible. Mrs. Kitson points to this as an example of how the system makes patients dependent. After Lady Anne is discharged, she moves into a hotel in Edinburgh, as she has nowhere else to go.
