Summary
In Chapter 27, the narrative shifts focus to Peter and Sarah. At Sarah’s request, Peter has continued to make inquiries regarding Hannah in order to make sure she is being taken care of at the hospital. Peter, who appears to possibly be attracted to Sarah, invites her to go swimming with him. Sarah accepts the invitation. After they swim, Peter tells Sarah that a new shipment of streptomycin has arrived in the country. Peter has arranged for some of it to be sent to the Kent tuberculosis hospital where Hannah is. There will be enough to treat six patients. Peter warns that the streptomycin does not always work and can even have adverse effects, but Sarah is confident that it will cure Hannah.
