Chapter 14 Summary

Penny stays late at the bakery and digs through the trash to find the envelope her mm threw away. She finds the envelope and a ripped up letter from an attorney that is a separation agreement. While walking home, she runs into Marcus and Sam. They walk and sit on the steps of his old house and talk about the stars. Marcus asks Penny to the dance at the end of Hog Days. Marcus walks Penny home, holding her hand, but Penny's mom is waiting for her on the front porch of the house.

Chapter 14 Analysis

Penny's mom is about to tell her about the separation, or that something has happened to Gram. Penny and Marcus continue to see that they have things in common and that they have a crush on each other.
