Summary

Chapter 35 begins with Mac and Sara sitting with Antonio. Antonio asks if they have the money. He tells them the police are interested in them. He says, “Everyone here has two jobs and two lives . . . And two souls” (231). He adds the Hemingway quote about Cubans and double crossing. Antonio tells them the police are interested because she had trouble at the airport, and the 300,000 pesos was suspicious. It is also suspicious that she has been to Cuba before, and he has told the police she has made some insulting comments about Cuban socialism. He explains how many are not thrilled by the cuban thaw and are looking for a reason to refreeze relations, and their arrest is what they want.
