Messner writes that he feels restless and takes a walk alone, but a diary entry from Nena provides a much different view. She writes that it was her idea to take a walk, but Messner was reading and told her to wait for him. She waited an hour-and-a half, and when they were getting ready to go, he rushed out while she was changing into thicker socks. She ran after him a minute later, but he already was far ahead and moving quickly. She could not catch him.
