Summary

Ghost teaches Jude how to climb into the rafters of their hideout. Jude asks if things will improve when Dian is King, and Ghost says things will be as they have always been. Ghost tells her they are going to kill a messenger from Balekin estate. They wait for hours until a strangely dressed creature appears and Jude kills it. Ghost is impressed, and Jude lies when he asks if that was her first kill. Jude remembers Valerian’s curse. Ghost then asks why she has been poisoning herself. When she says that humans need to try harder, he says humans have things faeries do not and that is why they steal them in the first place. Jude says she wants to defeat her enemies. The two then sneak up on the body and Jude realizes the messenger is Madoc...
