Summary

Jude sneaks into the Palace of Elfhame - Dain’s home. Dain welcomes her and she gives him the letter. He asks if she enjoyed her trip, and she says she did. A goblin named Roach enters and tells Jude she will earn a nickname for herself. Jude wonders how Madoc would feel about her spying as Dain realizes the letter is from Queen Orlagh who is likely being blackmailed. Balekin is trying to get poison and Jude wonders if Balekin wants to kill Dain or the second oldest sister. However, Roach believes Balekin wants to marry her. Dain then tells Jude to go with Roach to meet the others after commanding her not to tell anyone about her service to him. She feels the geas’ hold on her and knows she just obey. Jude follows Roach to their hideout.
