Summary
In Chapter 22, Rehn is in Professor Arcadius’ office watching him open a dispatch. The professor is visibly shaken. Rehn tries to warm himself. He has been out in the snow and is still damp. Rehn wonders where the professor gets the exotic animals he has in his office. Professor Arcadius tells Rehn that they are safe; at least, he thinks they are. There is no report of them being killed or captured, so he assumes they made it out alive. Rehn asks where they are. Arcadius tells him that they are in the city of Medford, but the church believes they have disappeared. The search for the thieves of the Crown Tower has been called off. Officially, the burglary never happened. Internally, they are baffled. They cannot figure out what happened or why.
The only clue they have is that tavern keeper in Iberton...
