Summary

In Chapter 8, set seven months earlier, Dawn writes to Mia that for the past few weeks, Natalie and Kim have been going out for lunch and have not invited Dawn to go with them. Dawn states that she bought a handprinted turtle sculpture as a gift for Natalie, hoping it would make Natalie like her more.

After Dawn gave Natalie the turtle, she asked if she could go to lunch with Natalie and Kim. Natalie claimed they would just be talking about sales and wedding stuff. Dawn tells Mia she sensed she had upset Natalie. She also noted that Natalie did not thank her for the gift. In Mia’s response, she suggests that Natalie is not worth Dawn’s time.

In Chapter 9, set in the present day and narrated by Natalie, Natalie arrives home to discover her front door is unlocked...
