The Contis’ House
The Contis’ house is where Anne and Marco reside. On the night of the Stillwell’s dinner party, they leave their baby Cora in their house while they visit their next door neighbors’ house and during this time Cora is kidnapped. Throughout most of the investigation that follows, the Contis feel trapped inside their house because reporters surround it and the police keep coming to interrogate them. The entire novel takes place during one summer in modern times.
The Stillwells’ House
The Stillwells’ house is where Cynthia and Graham reside. The Contis visit the Stillwells’ house during Chapter 1 when Cynthia throws a dinner party for Graham’s birthday. Afterward, Cynthia and Graham often argue in their house over the footage of Marco kidnapping Cora which Graham’s hidden camera had captured.
