Massa
Massa is the primary setting of roughly the first-third of the novel. Massa is formerly the State of Massachusetts, and it is now home to a large number of tribal groups. Western Massa, particularly Massa Wood, is home to Ice and her Sengles, the Lowells and Lowell Mill, and the Nat Mass Armies and their camp. They are being approached by forces of the Russian Federation. Massa is apart from tribal warfare, considered to be a safe place. It is heavily wooded, provides well enough for the people who live there, and is seldom visited by outsiders. This changes with the appearance of Pasha, who befriends Ice and the Sengles, and convinces them to flee Massa Wood. Ice and Pasha ultimately come to convince a large number of Lowells and Christings to flee Massa as well.
