Pgs. 76-117 Summary
Chip tells Denise about his situation with Melissa and why he was fired. Denise suggests that he talk to her friend, Julia Vrais about a writing job. That first Christmas, he keeps calling Melissa and leaving messages. This is the day of his father's seventy-fifth birthday and Denise has to prod him to call Alfred, which he does. He tells his parents that he has decided not to teach and to become a writer. Enid thinks that he should wait until after he has tenure.
Chip borrows ten thousand dollars from Denise and has a lawyer to fight his termination, but loses. He borrows more money and begins dating Julia. He finds a part-time position as a proofreader through Julia's contacts and then Julia tells him that she is married to the deputy prime minister of Lithuania who is the ambassador...
