Chapter 14 Summary
McCoy finds that the room number he is supposed to report to is not even printed on the door. The man answering his knock checks his identification before allowing McCoy to enter. He is given a visitor's tag to wear that is good anywhere in the building except at the Office of Naval Intelligence. McCoy is two weeks early in reporting for duty.
Sergeant Ruttman takes him into a big room where people are operating a variety of machines. All of them are wearing holsters with guns. They do the paperwork and picture taking for McCoy's credentials and then send him to Major J.J. Almond's office which is in front of Lieutenant Colonel F.L. Rickabee's office. He learns that the policy of the officer is for the personnel to live off base with compensation.
