Chapter 2 Summary
Banning visits McCoy at the Infirmary and demands to know how well he knows Chatworth. McCoy says he knows him. Banning tells him about the two witnesses that Chatworth has produced. Banning apologizes to McCoy for not believing in his innocence and tells him that the charges against him have been dropped. As soon as he is released from the hospital, he is assigned to Banning in Intelligence. Banning will be sending him to Peking. He will leave on Thursday in a truck convoy and is to gather information about the Japanese troops. They discuss the assignment and the fact that McCoy's promotion was approved.
The convoy is gone for a month. When it returns Lieutenant Macklin has been caught snooping by the Japanese. When McCoy appears, he tells Banning what he learned about Japanese troop movements. He found out from some women...
