Chapter 17 Summary

Judge Keyes, Belk, Bosch, Chandler, the court reporter and court clerk retire to the judge's chambers. Belk objects to the line of questioning Chandler is taking, and both Belk and Harry explain that by answering her questions, they will give away that they know a second killer exists, tipping him off. Chandler objects, citing it's all speculation in an effort to cover up the fact that Harry shot the wrong man. Judge Keyes tells her that is for a jury to decide. Bosch asks what will happen if he refuses, and Keyes tells him he will be held in contempt and placed under arrest. Belk asks for a continuance and only succeeds in making the judge angry.

Harry gets on the stand and Chandler asks again. Did the killings stop with the death of Norman Church? Harry tries to minimize the damage, but...
