Summary
The man finishes undressing. He is "so thin you could count the ribs under his skin" (149). The last thing granny sees before he eats her is a naked man with glowing eyes. Once finished with his meal, the man redresses himself. Then he throws the woman's "hair in the fireplace," wraps her bones in a napkin, and hides them under the bed (149). He changes the sheets, tucking the bloody set into the laundry. Afterwards, he tidies the space, returns the Bible to the table, and dons Granny's nightcap and quilt. When the girl knocks, the man mimics Granny's voice and calls out to her. She announces herself, and enters. When she sees only Granny, and no sign of the young man, she is disappointed. Then he throws "off the blanket," and blocks her exit (149).
