Summary
The Sympathizer awakes to find himself still in the basement where he is being held. Ugly and Uglier complain that it is not fun to torture The Sympathizer because he does not put up any fight. The Sympathizer realizes that the Mona Lisa is wearing his Bruno Magli shoes. The Mona Lisa holds a gun to The Sympathizer’s temple and The Sympathizer begins apologizing to the crapulent major and Sonny, who appear before him as hallucinations once again. The Sympathizer speaks his words to Sonny and the crapulent major aloud, and the Mona Lisa responds to them. The Mona Lisa forces The Sympathizer to play Russian roulette. As he complies, The Sympathizer remembers the day his refugee ship was set upon by Thai pirates. The pirates took all of the young boys, likely for sexual purposes.
